Hello my friends and welcome back to English Unleashed.
大家好,我的朋友们,欢迎回到《English Unleashed》。
I’m Tom and I’m so happy you are here today.
我是汤姆,今天你能来到这里让我非常开心。
In today’s episode, I will talk about motivation in language learning, which means how to stay strong, how to keep going, and how to enjoy the process of learning English even when it feels hard.
在今天的节目中,我将谈论语言学习中的动力,也就是如何在困难的时候依然保持坚强、坚持下去,并且享受学习英语的过程。
In this podcast, I speak slowly, use simple words, and repeat key ideas so you can understand easily.
在这个播客里,我会说得慢一些,用简单的词汇,并重复重要的观点,以便你们能够轻松理解。
You can listen, repeat, and speak with me; you can practice English step by step, and this method is called shadowing — you listen, then repeat after me.
你可以听我说、跟我重复、和我一起说;你可以一步一步地练习英语,这种方法叫做“跟读”——先听,然后跟着我重复。
So, are you ready? Take a deep breath, relax, and let’s begin together.
那么,你准备好了吗?深呼吸,放松,让我们一起开始吧。
All right, learning English is not easy and that’s okay; it’s normal to feel tired or slow, but you are not alone — everyone who learns a new language needs time to listen, practice, understand, grow, and improve.
好的,学习英语并不容易,但这没关系;感到疲倦或进展缓慢是正常的,但你并不孤单——每一个学习新语言的人都需要时间去听、去练习、去理解、去成长和提高。
Some days learning feels fun, some days it feels hard, and that’s part of the journey; on good days, enjoy your progress, and on bad days, just keep going — even small steps are good steps<, and you don't need to be perfect, speak fast, or know every word. 有些日子学习会很有趣,有些日子则会很艰难,这都是旅程的一部分;在状态好的时候,享受你的进步,在状态差的时候,只要继续前进就好——即使是很小的步伐也是好步伐,你不需要完美、不需要说得快、也不需要认识每一个单词。
You just need to try and keep going slowly, gently, step by step; you are learning something difficult and doing it well, and learning English is like climbing a mountain — sometimes it’s easy, sometimes it’s hard, and sometimes you want to stop, but when you look back, you will see how far you have come.
你只需要尝试,慢慢地、温和地、一步一步地坚持;你正在学习一件困难的事情,而且做得很好,学习英语就像爬山——有时容易,有时艰难,有时你会想停下来,但当你回头看时,你会发现你已经走了很远。
You have learned new words, listened, practiced, and improved; even if you don’t see it yet, you are no longer at the bottom — you are climbing, getting stronger, so don’t give up.
你已经学会了新的单词,听了、练了、也进步了;即使你现在还没看到,你已经不在起点——你正在攀登,变得更强,所以不要放弃。
Some people learn fast, some people learn slow, but all learners need one thing: motivation, which is not magic, not always loud, and sometimes quiet — it’s the little voice that says, “Try again, don’t stop, just do one more minute, and that’s enough.”
有些人学得快,有些人学得慢,但所有学习者都需要一样东西:动力。动力不是魔法,并不总是响亮,有时很安静——它是那个小小的声音,对你说:“再试一次,不要停,再多一分钟就够了。”
If you feel tired, rest, then come back; if you feel confused, breathe, then try again; you don’t need a perfect plan, you just need to return again and again.
如果你觉得累了,就休息一下,然后再回来;如果你觉得困惑,就深呼吸,然后再试一次;你不需要完美的计划,你只需要一次又一次地回来。
So ask yourself, why do I want to learn English? Maybe it’s for your job, to travel, or just because you enjoy it — your reason is important, strong, and will help you stay motivated.
所以问问自己,我为什么想学英语?也许是为了工作,为了旅行,或者只是因为喜欢——你的理由很重要、很有力量,它会帮助你保持动力。
Remember, every day you practice English, you are moving forward, even if it’s just five minutes, listening, or trying — you are growing, becoming better, and you should be proud of yourself for doing something many people are afraid to do.
记住,每天你练习英语,你都在向前迈进,即使只是五分钟、只是听、只是尝试——你都在成长,变得更好,你应该为自己感到骄傲,因为你正在做许多人害怕做的事情。
You are learning a new language, opening a door to the world, and that takes courage, so stay motivated, patient, and kind to yourself — you don’t need to be fast or perfect, you just need to continue.
你正在学习一门新语言,打开通往世界的大门,这需要勇气,所以要保持动力、耐心,对自己友善——你不需要快,也不需要完美,你只需要继续下去。
So, how to stay motivated when you feel tired? Let’s be honest, some days you feel tired, busy, stressed, and think, “I don’t want to study today,” and that’s okay — it’s normal to feel tired and take breaks, because your brain needs rest too.
那么,当你觉得累的时候该如何保持动力呢?老实说,有些日子你会觉得累、忙、压力大,还会想:“我今天不想学习”,这没关系——感到疲倦和休息是正常的,因为你的大脑也需要休息。
But you can keep going even on hard days, and here are a few ideas: Tip number one, do just a little — you don’t need to study for one hour or do a big lesson, just do one small thing, like listening to English for five minutes, reading one short paragraph, or repeating one sentence in your head; even one minute is better than nothing.
但即使在困难的日子里你也可以继续前进,这里有一些建议:第一,只做一点点——你不需要学习一个小时或上一大课,只需做一件小事,比如听五分钟英语、读一小段文字,或在脑海里重复一句话;哪怕一分钟也比什么都不做好。
Learning English is not about doing a lot, it’s about doing a little again and again.
学习英语不在于一次做很多,而在于一次又一次地做一点。
Tip number two, remember your reason — why are you learning English? Is it for your job, to study abroad, to speak with people from around the world, or just for fun? On the hard days, remember your why, your reason; write it down, say it out loud, keep it close, because your reason is your fuel, giving you energy when you feel tired.
第二,记住你的理由——你为什么学英语?是为了工作、出国留学、和世界各地的人交流,还是只是为了好玩?在艰难的日子里,记住你的“为什么”,你的理由;把它写下来,大声说出来,放在身边,因为你的理由就是你的燃料,在你疲惫时给你能量。
Tip number three, make it easy — don’t wait for the perfect time, silence, energy, or the right mood; make English easy to start by putting your book on your desk, saving a video on your phone, or setting a timer for 10 minutes; the goal is not to be perfect, but to start, and once you start, the rest becomes easier.
第三,让开始变得容易——不要等待完美的时间、安静的环境、充足的精力或好心情;把书放在桌上、在手机里保存一个视频、或设定十分钟计时器,让英语变得容易开始;目标不是完美,而是开始,一旦开始,其余的事就会变得更容易。
Tip number four, be kind to yourself — don’t say “I’m slow” or “I’m bad at English” or “I will never speak well”; instead, say “I’m learning, I’m trying, I’m doing something difficult and I’m doing my best”; you are human, you are growing, so be kind to yourself, because you deserve kindness from others and from yourself.
第四,对自己友善——不要说“我很慢”、“我英语很差”或“我永远说不好”;相反,要说“我在学习,我在尝试,我在做一件困难的事,并且尽力而为”;你是人,你在成长,所以要善待自己,因为你值得别人和自己的善意。
Tip number five, celebrate small wins — did you listen to English today? That’s a win; did you learn one new word? That’s a win; did you try even a little? That’s also a win; you don’t need big results, just notice the small victories, smile at them, and feel good about them, because they matter.
第五,庆祝小胜利——你今天听英语了吗?这就是胜利;你学会了一个新单词吗?这也是胜利;哪怕只是一点点尝试?那也是胜利;你不需要大的成果,只要注意到这些小胜利,微笑面对它们,并为之感到高兴,因为它们很重要。
Okay, in this part of the episode, I will speak using slightly longer sentences than before; still slow, still simple, but just a little longer, to help your listening improve step by step, so don’t worry if you don’t understand every word — just listen, relax, and try to follow the meaning.
好的,在这一部分,我会用比之前稍长的句子来讲;仍然慢速、简单,只是稍微长一点,以帮助你的听力逐步提升,所以即使你不能听懂每一个单词也不要担心——只要听、放松,并尝试理解意思。
Learning English takes time, but sometimes you don’t feel your progress; you study, listen, practice, and still ask, “Am I improving? Is this working? Why is my English still not good enough?” But here’s the truth: you are improving, you are better today than you were yesterday, even if you don’t see it yet.
学习英语需要时间,但有时你感觉不到进步;你学习、听、练习,却仍然问:“我有进步吗?这样有用吗?为什么我的英语还不够好?”但事实是:你正在进步,今天的你比昨天更好,即使你还没有看到。
So, how can you see your progress and feel that learning is working? Let’s talk about a few simple ways: Tip number one, write things down often — if you can keep a little English notebook, write new words, sentences you like, and things you did in English today; even one sentence per day is enough.
那么,怎样才能看到自己的进步并感受到学习的成效呢?我们来谈几个简单的方法:第一,经常写下一些东西——如果可以,准备一个小英语笔记本,写下新单词、你喜欢的句子,以及今天用英语做的事;哪怕每天只写一句也足够。
For example, today I listened to a podcast, learned the word progress, and watched a video and understood it; later, maybe in one week or one month, you can read it again and be surprised, saying, “Oh, I remember when I learned this; this was so hard before, but now it feels easy” — that, my friend, is real progress.
例如,今天我听了一个播客,学会了“progress”这个词,还看了一段视频并理解了它;过一周或一个月后再读,你会惊讶地说:“哦,我记得当时学这个的情景,以前很难,但现在感觉很容易。”朋友,这就是真正的进步。
Tip number two, record your voice — you don’t need a fancy microphone, just use your phone; say one or two sentences in English, for example, “Hello, my name’s Sarah. I live in Turkey. I’m learning English because I want to study abroad.” Then next week, do it again, say the same thing, listen and compare the two, and you will notice your pronunciation is a little better, your voice a little more confident — this is how you see your progress, it becomes real and something you can hear.
第二,录下你的声音——不需要昂贵的麦克风,用手机就行;用英语说一两句话,例如:“你好,我叫莎拉,我住在土耳其,我学英语是因为我想出国留学。”下个星期再做一次,说同样的内容,听并比较,你会发现发音好了一点,声音也更自信——这就是你看到进步的方式,它变得真实且能被听见。
Tip number three, notice small things you understand — progress is not always big; it’s not always a test score or certificate; sometimes it’s quiet, like the moment you understand a sentence without thinking, the first time you watch a video without subtitles, or when you speak and don’t translate in your head; these are small quiet signs, but they are big victories.
第三,留意那些你理解的小事——进步不总是很大,也不总是考试成绩或证书;有时很安静,比如你不经思考就听懂了一句话,第一次看无字幕的视频,或说话时不再在脑中翻译;这些都是细小而安静的信号,但它们是巨大的胜利。
Tip number four, look back, not just forward — sometimes we only look at what we don’t know and say, “I don’t understand native speakers, I can’t speak fast, I still make mistakes;” but try looking back at what you could not do one month ago, and compare it with what you can do today; looking back helps you understand you are growing, not stuck, you are moving, and even slow progress is still progress.
第四,回顾过去,而不仅仅是向前看——有时我们只关注自己不会的东西,说:“我听不懂母语者说话,我说得不快,我还会犯错。”但试着看看一个月前你不能做什么,再比较今天你能做什么;回顾能让你明白自己在成长,没有停滞,而是在前进,即使进步缓慢,也依然是进步。
Okay, in this part of the podcast, I will talk about something very important: how to enjoy the process of learning English even when it’s slow, difficult, or when you make mistakes; the sentences will continue to be a little longer than before, still easy and simple, to help your listening get stronger.
好的,在这一部分,我想谈一件非常重要的事:如何在学习英语的过程缓慢、困难或犯错时依然享受它;句子会比之前稍长一些,但仍简单易懂,以帮助你的听力变得更强。
All right, learning is a journey, not a race; you don’t need to finish first or be faster than others; learning a language is like a long walk, you go step by step, stop and rest, sometimes fast, sometimes slow, and that’s okay — you don’t need to rush, you just need to continue.
学习是一段旅程,不是一场比赛;你不需要第一个完成,也不必比别人快;学习语言就像一次长途步行,你一步一步走,停下来休息,有时快,有时慢,这都没关系——你不必着急,只需要继续。
Remember, there is joy in learning, in small wins and small victories, like understanding one sentence in a movie, speaking to someone for 10 seconds in English, or remembering a word you learned last week; these are small but feel good, and you don’t need a test to tell you you’re doing well — you can feel it in your own heart.
记住,学习中有快乐,有小胜利和小成就,比如在电影里听懂一句话,用英语和别人说十秒钟,或记起上周学的一个单词;这些都虽小但让人愉快,你不需要考试来证明自己做得好——你可以在心里感受到。
Now, many learners are afraid of making mistakes; they say, “Tom, I don’t want to speak because I might say it wrong or I feel nervous because my grammar is not perfect.” But listen carefully: mistakes are part of learning; in fact, mistakes are how you grow.
现在,许多学习者害怕犯错;他们说:“汤姆,我不想说,因为我可能会说错,或者因为语法不完美而感到紧张。”但请仔细听:错误是学习的一部分;事实上,错误就是你成长的方式。
When a baby learns to walk, it falls many times, but nobody says don’t try; we smile and say, “Try again,” and that’s how the baby learns to walk; you are doing the same, just with English — you are walking, trying, learning, so if you say the wrong word, forget something, or someone corrects you, it’s totally okay, because that means you are learning.
婴儿学走路时会摔倒很多次,但没有人说不要尝试;我们会笑着说:“再试一次”,这就是婴儿学会走路的方式;你也在做同样的事,只不过是用英语——你在走、在尝试、在学习,所以即便你说错了词、忘记了什么,或有人纠正你,也完全没关系,因为这说明你在学习。
No one speaks perfectly all the time, even native speakers make mistakes, so please don’t be afraid; speak anyway, write anyway, practice anyway — you just need to be brave, and you don’t always need to study seriously; you can make learning fun by listening to music in English, watching short videos, speaking to yourself in the mirror, or reading something interesting, not just textbooks.
没有人能一直说得完美,即使是母语者也会犯错,所以请不要害怕;无论如何要说、要写、要练习——你只需要勇敢,而且不必总是严肃地学习;你可以通过听英语音乐、看短视频、对着镜子自言自语,或读有趣的内容(不仅仅是课本)让学习变得有趣。
Learning can be a part of your daily life, it can feel like play, not pressure; when you enjoy learning, you learn more, and when you smile while studying, your brain remembers better, so find what you love and do it in English.
学习可以成为你日常生活的一部分,它可以像玩一样,而不是压力;当你享受学习时,你会学得更多,当你学习时微笑,大脑会记得更牢,所以找到你喜欢的事情并用英语去做。
All right, in this part of the episode, I want to talk to you about your future, and show you how learning English — even slowly, even in small steps — can open new doors in your life; English is not just a subject or a class, it’s a tool, a key, something you can use in real life everywhere.
好的,在这一部分,我想和你谈谈你的未来,并向你展示学习英语——即使缓慢、即使一步步来——如何为你的生活打开新的大门;英语不仅仅是一门学科或一堂课,它是一种工具、一把钥匙,是你在现实生活中随处可用的东西。
When you learn English, you can talk to people from different countries, make new friends online, understand movies, books, music, and news in English, join conversations instead of just listening from the side, and be part of the global world.
当你学会英语,你可以和来自不同国家的人交谈,在网上结交新朋友,理解英语的电影、书籍、音乐和新闻,加入对话而不仅仅是旁听,并成为全球化世界的一部分。
Think about it: more than 1.5 billion people speak English today, which means when you speak English, you are never truly alone; no matter where you live — Brazil, Vietnam, Iran, Spain, Iraq, Ukraine, Russia, South Korea, Japan, Indonesia, Thailand — English can connect you to someone on the other side of the world, giving you a way to understand people and to be understood, and that is powerful.
想想看:如今超过15亿人会说英语,这意味着当你说英语时,你永远不会真正孤单;无论你生活在哪里——巴西、越南、伊朗、西班牙、伊拉克、乌克兰、俄罗斯、韩国、日本、印尼、泰国——英语都能把你和世界另一端的人连接起来,让你能够理解他人,也让他人理解你,这很有力量。
English gives you more choices: maybe you want to get a better job, study in another country, travel or work abroad; English makes those dreams easier, and when you speak English, you can apply for international jobs, understand what’s happening in the world, not just in your own city.
英语给你更多选择:也许你想找到更好的工作、去另一个国家学习、旅行或到国外工作;英语让这些梦想更容易实现,当你会说英语时,你可以申请国际职位,了解世界上发生的事,而不仅仅是你所在城市的事。
Even in your own country, English helps — more and more companies look for people who can speak English, more websites, tools, and machines use English, so when you learn English, you are learning something useful, practical, that gives you more freedom and opportunity.
即使在你自己的国家,英语也有帮助——越来越多的公司寻找会说英语的人,更多的网站、工具和机器使用英语,所以当你学习英语时,你正在学习有用、实际的东西,它能给你更多自由和机会。
All right, you have made it to the end of this episode; you listened with your heart, gave your time and energy to something important — yourself; today I talked about motivation, how learning English takes time, how to keep going, and finally, how English can change your life.
好的,你已经听到了这一集的结尾;你用心聆听,为你自己——这件重要的事——付出了时间和努力;今天我谈到了动力、学习英语需要时间、如何坚持下去,最后谈到英语如何改变你的生活。
And now I want to tell you this: I am proud of you; you are doing something difficult, building a skill that can change your future; it doesn’t matter if you speak slowly, make mistakes, or feel nervous or shy — what matters is that you are trying, growing, and showing up.
现在我想告诉你:我为你感到骄傲;你正在做一件困难的事,培养一项可以改变未来的技能;不管你说得慢、犯错,还是感到紧张或害羞——重要的是你在尝试、在成长、在坚持出现。
I’m Tom and this is English Unleashed; thank you for showing up and thank you for being part of this journey; keep listening, keep speaking, and keep believing in yourself.
我是汤姆,这里是《English Unleashed》;感谢你的到来,感谢你成为这段旅程的一部分;继续听、继续说、继续相信自己。
Bye for now.
再见。
